Scissors Brown Paper or card
Ruler Card or paper for the wings
Pencil Card or paper for the face
Glue Card or paper for the dress
Glitter Glue Ribbon for the handles
Ribbon for the arms
Bows for the hair and dress
Feathers for the wings
Wool or string for the hair
The thing to remember about all of these projects is that nothing is set in stone. It is always better to use what you have at hand as this gives it your own personal touch.
The size can be varied to suit the gift that you are giving.
The bag that we have made uses brown paper cut to 8" (20cm) x 12" (30cm)
Lay the paper as it is in the top photo (8" high x 12" wide)
Fold the top edge over 1" (this gives the top of the bag added strength)
Turn the bottom edge over 2"
Fold approx 1/2" lip on the left hand edge
Fold the right hand side in half to this lip.
Open out again and fold the right hand side in 2"
(keeping the 1/12" lip folded in) fold the LHS to join the RHS
Open out the right and left sides, you should now have 5 sections:
1 x 1/2" 2 x 2" and 2 larger sections
Fold each of the 2" sections in half to form a crease
Now unfold the bottom edge and cut each fold to the bottom fold line, cut off the bottom of the 1/2" fold completely.
Now snip the edges of the 2 larger sections diagonaly as in the picture (not too much as these form the bottom of the bag)
Now to start glueing
fold the bag in half inside the 1/2" lip and glue the lip down
this should give you the bag nicely shaped
Now fold the 2 smaller sections of the bottom so that are level with where the bottom will be.
Put glue on the 2 larger lips, fold the first on top of the smaller sections and finally the last on top of the rest.
CONGRATULATIONS! you have made your first bag.

Make 2 holes in the top of the bag front and back (not too close to the top or they will rip) for the ribbon or string handles. The length of the ribbon depends on the size of the bag, we have used approx 10" (25.5cm) for each handle. Feed each end of one piece through each hole in the front and glue the end to the back of the ribbon handle (alternatively you can tie a knot) Now do the same for the back.
Ok now for the decoration.
Again this is a personal thing and you can decorate your bags however you chose varying it for the people and the gifts that are to be given. Obviously we have chosen to fairy ours as all of our friends are fairies.
Here is a picture of the card cut outs that we used. You can copy this picture to your desktop and then print them out if you wish or you can draw your own. They are laid out on an A5 piece of paper (half A4). It is best to measure the front of your bag and make sure they will fit.
A handy tip for getting each side of the wings the same is to fold them in the middle and cut them together.
Now it is time to glue all your pieces on. Start with the wings, then feathers, body, head, hair, arms, glitter glue wherever you would like it. and then to finish it all off the pretty bows (again optional)
We hope you have enjoyed this project, if you have any comments or would like to show us your finished bag then we would be very pleased to hear from you.
